The Robert Louis Stevenson Tea Room
Born from songwriter R.Leonard's spiritual connection with the Scottish author who lived in Saranac Lake (during the winter of 1888 through the spring of 1889), and, located in the hamlet where the beloved author penned great works all stops are out at this classic tearoom, where the attention-to-detail tea and superior dining is done in authentic Stevensonian style. The Proprietress, Tea Master and Rabbi Rita Leonard, has created an environment for classic, superb dining. This tearoom is clearly Victorian where one can nurture the weary, the joyous and the literary. Tea here is a unique experience where history, mystery and the finest dining and catering services are take to new heights in the Adirondacks. Request for any ethnic fare (Persian-Asian and beyond) will be taken into consideration for dinner for the menu is often tailored to the desires of guests. One may request an historic presentation, a musical performance, a talk on the healing nature of tea, or counsel on matters of spirit...for private events, group meetings as well as romantic occasions. This tearoom is self-certified Kosher, only the finest, of ingredients, whenever possible organic, compose our Executive Chef's sumptuous masterpieces. The works of R. Leonard and items from her travels are available in the curio; presently a few house teas are being prepared on a limited basis for sale on property. Arrangements can be made for a tour of the R.L.S. Memorial Cottage up the hill on and off-season at your request. Teatime here in the North Country is stellar and this is a trip worth making, but for the soup and aritsan breads for athletes and all those visiting Lake Placid for winter sports, this is the best little secret for the most beautiful hot soups and artisan breads......in summer iced teas to fortify you when you are headed to the lakes!
